Crazykart2 iPhone

Posted by ifreak

Int13, a french mobile game developer has successfully started porting their successful Crazy Kart 2 game over to the iPhone.

- 320 * 320 pixels playing area
- Touch controls with a virtual steering wheel
- 3 vehicle classes (karts, motorbikes, hovercrafts)
- 6 characters with different vehicles
- Downloadable content (new vehicles, new tracks)
- Wifi online multiplayer with match making and up to four simultaneous players a

This game was originally created for Windows Mobile and Symbian Smartphone. They wrote:

Thanks to it’s simplified controls and flexible camera system it was not too hard to adapt it’s interface for the iPhone touch screen, but we’re still evaluating alternatives (like tilt control and landscape display)

The game is perfectly smooth on the iPhone : constant 60 FPS with a pure software engine, we already plan to work on a sequel with a full 3D accelerated engine to exploit the full potential of the device.
A release date has not been set, but targeted for a July release based on the Youtube comments.

Over 100,000 Downloads of iPhone SDK in 4 Days

Posted by ifreak

iPhone SDK RoadmapApple has announced that more than 100,000 developers have downloaded its beta iPhone Software Development Kit during its first 4 days of availability. Also, the video of the press event at Apple.com has already been viewed more than 1,000,000 times.

Although the iPhone has been on the market for the better part of a year, the SDK represents the first time. Apple has lifted the hood on iPhone and iPod touch application development, enabling programmers to create their own native applications for the iPhone rather than building Web-based services that can be accessed via the iPhone’s integrated Safari Web browser.

“Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Apple senior VP of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller, in a statement. “Also, over one million people have watched the launch video on Apple.com, further demonstrating the incredible interest developers have in creating applications for the iPhone.”

Apple plans to offer iPhone applications for sale via a new App Store, a new service in the forthcoming iPhone 2.0 software that will enable users to wirelessly purchase and install applications on their iPhones and iPod touch devices. Developers will be able to set the prices for their applications and keep 70 percent of the sticker price; developers are already speculating about the possibilities of offering very cheap (e.g., $0.99 ) applications via the App Store. Developers will also be able to offer free applications.
